Molecular Fluorescence Velocimetry for Evaporating Thin Film

Micro-Molecular fluorescence Velocimetry (Micro-MFV)

The Pinciple of Micro-MFV utilizes the phenomenon of fluorescence of molecule. Thin fluorescent images are captured by the use of a CCD and/or regular camera. Then, the flow velocity field is analyzed using a time-averaged line tracking method.

For this study, caged fluorescent dyes are applied (so it is called as caged MFV). For uncaged fluorescent molecules, they emit light directly  pumped by the exciting light. For caged molecules, however, a special molecular compound prevents fluorescent molecules from emitting light. Thus, a special means, such as UV pulse, is necessary to cleave the caging compound chain to allow fluorescence emission.
